Oil Heat Institute of Long Island, National Grid Join Forces in Appeal

The Oil Heat Institute of Long Island recently joined forces with National Grid in an appeal to industry participants for support for a charity that helps home heat customers in need. “In the highly competitive home heating market, it’s a pretty unusual event when the Oil Heat Institute and National Grid agree on something,” the organizations wrote in a joint appeal to suppliers and vendors. “This is one of those very rare occasions, but it’s for a very worthy cause.”

The organizations joined hands to solicit support for Project Warmth, a program based on New York’s Long Island that helps customers meet their heating needs. Project Warmth is entirely funded by individual and corporate donations, which provide a one-time, emergency fuel assistance grant to help needy residents who may have fallen on hard-times, but who do not qualify for state heating assistance.

“We are asking you to join your colleagues in the energy community including National Grid and the National Grid Foundation, the Oil Heat Institute, LIPA, PSEGLI, Northville Industries, Carbo Industries, Island Transport, Blackman Plumbing Supply, Swezey Fuel, PETRO, Meenan and many others who have generously supported Project Warmth for many years,” the organizations wrote in their appeal letter.

Project Warmth assisted almost 1,200 families in 2014, but more than 160,000 families on Long Island living below the national poverty level and struggling to make ends meet.
