This is your opportunity to safeguard the future of the industry, and it starts on Friday, August 22 at the Industry Summit. The political winds have shifted. Voters are pushing back against heating fuel and appliance bans, proposed clean heat standards are stumbling, and consumers are demanding access to more affordable, secure energy solutions.

The Summit will feature presentations from Leslie Anderson of the Propane Gas Association of New England on “Propane vs. Electrification” and Roger Marran, CEO of Energy Kinetics, on “Cold Climate Heating Decarbonization in the Northeast & Liquid Heating Fuel Advances.” Both presentations will provide groundbreaking information on the energy costs of electrification and the successful abatement of emissions with higher blends of biofuels.

The HEAT Show has also scheduled several “Summit Spotlight Sessions” throughout Wednesday and Thursday, including Representative Tenney’s keynote, Wednesday’s luncheon, and Thursday’s morning session, that will feature topics on energy choice, affordability, Clean Heat Standards, and biofuels that will directly relate to Friday’s Summit (see page 22 for more information).

In December 2024, the NEFI Board established the Northeast Working Group (NEWG) on Industry Principles to research and develop a new policy framework to succeed the 2019 Providence Resolution. NEWG, chaired by Rocco Lacertosa, CEO of the New York State Energy Coalition, and Charlie Uglietto, owner of Cubby Oil (and this year’s Jack Sullivan award winner), brought together stakeholders from each industry sector and throughout the Northeast region and adjacent states to identify challenges and opportunities for heating fuels.

The Providence Resolution is a commitment by the home heating oil industry to voluntarily reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent by 2025 and 40 percent by 2030, and to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The Northeast Working Group, as charged, developed a menu of policy principles and energy solutions to “amplify and augment” the successes of the 2019 Providence Resolution, behind which Northeast fuel associations and businesses can unite. Upon ratification of this new resolution, liquid fuel retailers, wholesalers, producers, equipment manufacturers, and affiliated partners will have the tools and talking points to advocate to and work with government officials, environmental advocates, consumer groups, and other stakeholders.

This policy-focused resolution to chart our course forward will be reviewed at the Industry Summit and voted on by attendees. The goal is to establish unified principles for building decarbonization that preserve consumer choice, ensure energy affordability, and strengthen American energy security.

NEFI and NEWG are looking for the participation and support of wholesale and retail fuel dealers, manufacturers, service providers, and associates. Consumers are demanding common-sense solutions that grow our economy, create jobs, and address energy poverty – not exacerbate it. Our industry has the track record, technology, and skilled professionals to lead in this effort.

Entry to the Industry Summit is included in the full Management Track Registration option, or can be purchased separately. For more information, visit https://heatshow.com/industry-summit/.
